What West Hollywood is like

West Hollywood is a small independent city, about 1.9 square miles, between Beverly Hills and Hollywood. It’s one of the most walkable places in Los Angeles County, with the Sunset Strip, Santa Monica Boulevard and the Design District along Melrose and Robertson.

Most housing is multifamily: condos, older apartment buildings and new mixed-use projects, with pockets of single-family homes in the Norma Triangle and the west side of the city. The city has its own zoning and rent-stabilization rules.

Planner’s notes

What’s shaping West Hollywood

  • City rules. West Hollywood has its own zoning code, design review and rent stabilization, all of which affect investment properties especially.
  • Density & mixed use. Major corridors allow mixed-use buildings, so new projects keep reshaping the Boulevard.

Project timelines change. I separate approved projects from proposals and verify status against city and Metro sources before advising on a deal.

Own in West Hollywood? The official tools.

West Hollywood has its own city government, so its zoning, permits and city services come from that city, not the City of Los Angeles. These are official public resources. They tell you what’s on record; they can’t confirm what you’re allowed to build or how a project will be decided. For a specific parcel, I’m happy to walk through it with you.
